Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been won on hardcourt
A revitalized Daniil Medvedev won his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.
The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has had a challenging period, managing just one win at the Grand Slams and suffering a meltdown at the American major.
Medvedev's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serve in specific - caused him exiting of the top ten and ultimately separating with former mentor his previous coach.
Currently training with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has consistently improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought three-set triumph over challenger Moutet.
It is the player's first title following the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hardcourt after spring of 2023.
The win also means Medvedev has achieved 21 titles at twenty-one distinct competitions.
"For the first time I have attended a event with my both daughters together, so to win a title is especially meaningful," commented tennis professional Medvedev.
"This title is in dedication of my child my daughter, because the first title I got when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."
The athlete, the past champion, had been defeated in his last six title deciders, including in Halle previously this season.
The player's counter-punching play style and regular emotional displays on the tennis court had led observers to doubt if his skill to perform at the top level was over.
However the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, making an effort to come to the net and compete aggressively, supported by an improved serve.
He fought back from a disadvantage in the first set against the challenging Frenchman, securing four of the concluding five points to gain the advantage.
Both players traded breaks in the following set before the challenger, attempting for his maiden ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to create a decider.
The opponent rescued four early break points in a tight deciding set before Medvedev won the break to that score to secure the win.
Appropriately, Medvedev secured the win with a point at the front of the court, with his opponent incapable to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
